Keeping it Local

 Alief ISD ACE

Helping to launch Alief ISD’s Texas Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE) program in 2013, Alief Middle School Math teacher Michael Hachicho created lesson plans that ensure maximum engagement with STEM-related activities.

Since the inception of the program, Hachicho has been a staple during the summer enrichment program, making STEM fun and helping middle school students connect the classroom to the real world. This summer is no different, with plans on creating meaningful and magical moments with students participating in community service projects and computer coding lessons.

With his energetic demeanor and infectious laugh, students look forward to attending the afterschool program and are excited to learn that Hachicho is conducting the class. When the students find out that Hachicho is their instructor for the day, they often do a fist pump and shout, “Yes!”

“The Alief ISD ACE program has a special place in my heart because of the kids. I’m a product of Alief ISD and I have a personal connection to my students,” said Hachicho. “This is not a job for me. It’s fun. If the kids are having fun, I’m having fun.” #IAmTXEd
