Student Assessment Division

The Student Assessment Division manages and oversees the development, administration, scoring, and analysis of the Texas assessment program, which includes the following assessments:

Optional Beginning of Year Assessments

Assessments are a valuable tool to monitor student progress and measure student understanding of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). As a result of COVID-19 and the cancellation of STAAR for the school year 2019—2020, the optional End-of-Year Assessments were made available to support teachers and parents in better understanding the progress their students had made. Similarly, optional Beginning-of-Year Assessments will be available in late July 2020 to help diagnose understanding of the TEKS from the previous school year. The data collected from both optional assessments will help school districts and parents have a better understanding of student progress as the new 2020—2021 school year begins. This data will help educators develop appropriate instructional plans to address any gaps in student learning as a result of the disruption to classroom instruction and the summer break.
