Texas Through-year Assessment Pilot Participant Resources

The Texas Through-year Assessment Pilot is exploring whether Texas's current summative assessment can be replaced with a cohesive progress monitoring system that generates a cumulative score.

Purpose of Participant Resources

This webpage has been created specifically for TTAP participants in the 2024–2025 school year, including teachers, campus administrators, district testing coordinators (DTCs), campus testing coordinators (CTCs), and academic support staff, while our public TTAP webpage remains available to the general public. This webpage houses all Year 3 resources and serves as a one-stop shop for everything needed to support TTAP participants and provide assessment planning guidance for the 2025–2026 school year.

NEW: 2025–2026 School Year TTAP Update

For the 2025–2026 school year, the pilot will be solely focused on analysis and research using all the data TEA has accumulated over the last three years. As a result, there will not be a test administration of TTAP during the 2025–2026 school year.

2025-2026 School Year FAQs

What is the plan for TTAP in the 2025-2026 school year?

TEA will utilize data collected from TTAP participants over the past three years and continue researching the feasibility of a full-scope through-year model as a summative replacement. This includes investigating the impact of missing scores during the school year and using existing student data from Reading Language Arts (RLA) items to study a potential RLA model.

What can TTAP participants expect this year?

There are no impacts on the remainder of the 20242025 school year. Districts should continue following the pilot's expectations. District participation and implementation play a crucial role in the success of the program, as the pilot requires adequate collection of student performance data as well as in-depth participant feedback to inform decision making and draw conclusions. The Opportunity 3 administration is occurring as planned, and it provides the most comparable information to how your students are expected to perform on STAAR at the end of the school year.

What should TTAP participants for the 2024-2025 school year do for next year?

TTAP campuses and districts should explore various interim/benchmarking assessment options for the 2025-2026 school year. TEA recommends transitioning to STAAR Interim Assessments, which is a free and viable alternative that uses the same system and testing platform. Districts can attend the September STAAR Interim Assessments training for more details about implementing STAAR Interim Assessments in the 2025-2026 school year.

Training Requirements

All required and supplemental TTAP trainings can be accessed in the Learning Management System (LMS). After logging in, users can navigate to "Catalog" in the left panel and select "TTAP Trainings" to access all published pilot trainings. The password to access TTAP training in Year 3 is “TTAP-24-25”. The table below includes the training windows for the 2024–2025 school year, along with required and recommended participants for each training.

    Academic Resources

For 2024–2025, the blueprints for each testing opportunity will be similar in length and the TEKS assessed will be proportional across opportunities.

TTAP consists of test items that are aligned to standards at different degrees of rigor.  Expanded item samplers are offered to give participants examples of the types of questions students might see on TTAP and illustrate the differences in difficulty.

Draft Range Performance Level Descriptors (RPLDs) are available in Year 3 to provide guidance on the knowledge and skills expected of students to demonstrate proficiency of learning standards. This resource will continue to be refined as we collect educator feedback from pilot participants throughout the school year.

Facilitation guides are an optional resource available to help guide participants through the process of interpreting score reports and combining TTAP data with formative data to guide student groupings and next steps. Facilitation guides are best used in a collaborative setting with a designated facilitator to guide the process.

For districts interested in communicating general information about TTAP to families, the TTAP One-Pager and Family Letter Information Template are available.

Four optional training videos will be available to Year 3 participants. These are short, content-specific trainings that participants can access at any time throughout the school year. Participants will be updated as trainings are posted.

              • Range PLD Supplemental Video [NEW]: This training will identify the intended uses of this new resource, provide guidance on aligning classroom tasks to Range PLDs, and will include scaffolding support to promote student growth.
              • CRS Navigation Tool: The CRS, or centralized reporting system, is where all TTAP student data is stored. This video is a step-by-step guide to help users access and log into the CRS and find and export student data files.
              • Balanced Assessment System: This supplemental video will cover what a balanced assessment system is and why it is important, the data each type of assessment provides and its intended uses, and how TTAP fits into a balanced assessment system.
