Accessibility Checklist
A checklist can help guide all contributors towards accessibility compliance. Checklists should provide an overview of common factors that contributors should evaluate on all types of digital content. Color
Is color not used as the only means of conveying information?
Does text have proper color contrast against background colors? -
Headings and Structure
Is the main title of your document or webpage a Heading 1?
Are headings nested correctly?
Are you using Styles to create headings? (Word document)
Are slide layouts and placeholders used for proper structure? (PowerPoint document) -
Images & Graphs
Do all visual elements that convey information have alternative (alt) text?
Is the alt text concise and describing the image in the context of the content?
Are graphs conveying all their data and information in a text equivalent format?
Are all decorative images and icons marked decorative/background or coded as null (alt=" ")?
Are multiple combined images groups into 1 comprehensive image? (All Office documents) -
Links
Are links descriptive and meaningful when read out of context?
Are links embedded into the content and not using URL web addresses?
Are links using the default blue font color and underlined? -
Media
Do videos have closed captions?
Are captions synced with audio dialog and accurate?
Is audio description used for videos with non-audible information?
Do audio clips have transcripts?
Are the media players keyboard accessible? -
Tables
Are table used for data and not layout?
Do tables have assigned table headers?
Are tables constructed in simple format without merged or nested tables?
Is the data in the correct reading order (left to right, top to bottom)? -
Text
Does the text use proper font sizes, text spacing, and Sans-serif fonts?
Is text left aligned?
Is the content in the correct logical reading order?
Are links properly created? -
Title
Is the title placed in a practical area and is a Heading 1?
Is the “Title” and “Language” set up in the properties of the document? (All Office & PDF documents) -
Review Accessibility
Were tools and checkers used to review accessibility?
Was the content manually reviewed? -
TEA Websites
Does the website follow TEA branding standards?
Does the website include a TEA web brand bar?
Does the website have a VPAT or ACR from a credible 3rd party accessibility auditor/reviewer?
Does the website use a footer like on the main TEA site to accommodate TAC §206.54 required links?
