Subject: Seeking feedback on the revised draft Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (T-STEM) Blueprint

Texas Education Agency (TEA) seeks feedback on the Revised T-STEM Blueprint.

The T-STEM Blueprint is now available for public comment through Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at www.tea.texas.gov/t-stem. Interested stakeholders are encouraged to review the revised Blueprint and provide constructive feedback on both design elements and outcomes-based measures (OBMs).

The revised draft aligns with changes made to the Early College High School (ECHS) Blueprint, which streamlines required design elements to give local education agencies more flexibility to meet student outcomes. The new T-STEM Blueprint addresses six benchmarks: 1) School Design, 2) Target Population, 3) Strategic Alliances, 4) Curriculum and Instruction, 5) Work-Based Learning and 6) Student Support. Existing T-STEM academies will need to apply for designation for the 2018-2019 school year starting on March 5, 2018. Due to the implementation of the redesigned T-STEM Blueprint, no new T-STEM Academies will be designated for the 2018-2019 school year. Districts seeking designation for a new T-STEM Academy must apply, starting March 5, to become part of a T-STEM planning year. 

Blueprint revisions are a part of TEA’s work to revise and unify all College and Career Readiness Models, including ECHS, T-STEM, Industry Cluster Innovative Academies (ICIAs), and Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools (P-TECHs). All newly designed/redesigned blueprints contain clearly defined goals and outcomes to allow greater flexibility for how different schools meet these goals. The expansion and evolution of College and Career Readiness Models offers an opportunity to integrate technical assistance, create efficiencies, spur cross-model learning, and allow for customized support to schools and districts to increase the college and career readiness of their students. Additional information, including a schedule of technical assistance for applicants, will accompany the opening of T-STEM application windows on March 5, 2018.
