The purpose of this communication is to inform school systems of the release of the 2023–24 Preliminary Accelerated Testers Student Listings. This confidential data will be available for district and campus review on the TEA Login (TEAL) Accountability application.

Accelerated Testers Definition

Accelerated testers are defined as students who earn Approaches Grade Level or above on the Algebra I, English II, and/or Biology STAAR EOC prior to grade 9. To fulfill federal testing requirements, these accelerated students must take a corresponding subject area SAT or ACT while in high school.

Students included on the listing were reported as enrolled in grade 11 on the 2023–24 PEIMS Summer Submission of attendance and they have either:

  1. taken an Algebra I, English II, and/or Biology EOC assessment prior to enrolling in grade 9 and earned Approaches Grade Level or above; or

  2. earned course credit for Algebra I, English II, and/or Biology in Spring or Summer 2020.

Students are attributed to the district and campus at which they were reported in attendance for the final six weeks of SY 2023–24. The Preliminary 2025 Accelerated Testers Student Listings reflect which subject area the student is considered accelerated and if the student has a corresponding SAT or ACT on record. Results through May 2024 (2023–24, 2022–23 and 2021–22 school years) are included.

Key Highlights of the Accelerated Testers Data

  • Accountability Impact: These results are included in performance calculations, affecting accountability ratings and ensuring that accelerated students are factored into a campus’s academic outcomes. Performance results for accelerated testers will be included in the STAAR components of the Student Achievement; School Progress, Part B:  Relative Performance; and Closing the Gaps domains. Academic Growth is not calculated for SAT or ACT results for accelerated students. Accelerated Testers are included in Participation rates calculations. Academic Achievement performance calculations in Closing the Gaps will only be impacted by participation rates less than 95 percent.

  • Accessing the Data: Authorized district users may access the data through the TEAL Accountability application. Please ensure that your access credentials are up to date and your data download capabilities are functional.

  • Data Review Window: TEA encourages districts to thoroughly review their data during the designated review period. This process allows for the verification of student participation and assessment records.

  • Resources: Additional information on the inclusion methodology for accelerated testers is available on the Performance Reporting Resources page.

Accelerated Testers Student Listings – Spring 2025

Updated 2025 Accelerated Testers Student Listings will be released in Spring 2025 and will reflect accelerated testers reported by each district as enrolled in grade 12 for the 2024–25 PEIMS October Snapshot. The students included in the updated listing will be the final list of students to be evaluated as accelerated testers for 2025 accountability reports. SAT or ACT results on the updated listing will still be through May 2024.

The 2025 accountability calculations will include SAT or ACT results through May 2025, and the August 2025 STAAR student listings released in TEAL Accountability will include these additional results.
