Getting Started
- Please visit TEA's webpage on IEP Facilitation: You can find information on local and state facilitation, facilitation request forms, and more.
- If you’d like information on other options for special education dispute resolution, here is a great resource: Options for Parents to Resolve Disagreements: Navigating the Special Education Dispute Resolution System in Texas compares all options available to you.
- Contact us if you need help—we're here for you: Specialists at the SPEDTex information center are available to respond to your questions. You can chat live with a specialist on the SPEDTex website, which also has many online resources for families, or you can call 1-855-773-3839 or email inquire@spedtex.org. TEA and SPEDTex cannot provide legal interpretation or legal advice.
Helpful Tips
- You also have the option to file a local grievance, but please note that filing a local grievance is not required in order to use any of the special education dispute resolution services: Every district’s process might be a little different. To find your district’s local grievance policy, ask an administrator how to access the relevant policies, which might be on the district’s board policy website. If you choose to file a local grievance, acting quickly is important to meet your school district’s reporting deadlines! You may be required to report your concern within 10–15 days of becoming aware of the issue.
- Learn about your district’s grievance process by reviewing your district’s local policies: Pay particular attention to the following local grievance policies:
- DGBA (LOCAL) for employee grievances;
- FNG (LOCAL) for student and parent grievances; and
- GF (LOCAL) for grievances by all others, including vendors and taxpayers.
