Subject: 2014-2018 Commissioner’s List of Reading Instruments—Grades 1 and 2
The following information should be shared with early childhood staff working with grade 1 and grade 2 reading assessments.
The Commissioner’s List of Reading Instruments is a comprehensive list of reading diagnostic instruments that include grade 1 and grade 2. School districts and open-enrollment charter schools shall continue to refer to the 2014-2018 Commissioner’s List of Reading Instruments for grade 1 and grade 2 through the 2018-2019 school year. This will ensure school districts and open-enrollment charter schools are continuing to use instruments based on valid and reliable scientific research that measure reading skills identified by state and national experts as essential for reading development.
The Texas Education Code (TEC) regarding selection and use of reading instruments for grade 1 and grade 2 and the 2014-2018 Commissioner’s List of Reading Instruments can be found below:
