Subject: Deadline Extended for the 2017–2018 school year New Instructional Facility Allotment (NIFA); Online Application for Funding
The deadline to submit an application for the 2017–2018 school year New Instructional Facility Allotment (NIFA), available to public school districts and charter schools, has been extended from July 17, 2017, to December 29, 2017.
The Commissioner of Education has given approval to waive the NIFA application deadline specified in 19 Texas Administrative Code §61.034. The 85th Texas Legislature made changes to the statute governing the NIFA. We are currently amending the commissioner’s rule to implement those changes. This deadline extension will allow the rule to move all the way through the rulemaking process before we make decisions regarding eligibility. So that districts and charter schools have adequate time to take advantage of this funding opportunity, the deadline for submitting a NIFA application for the 2017-2018 school year will be December 29, 2017.
