Teacher Survey to Evaluate Educator Preparation Programs

New teachers under a standard certificate must respond to a survey at the end of the first year of teaching regarding the effectiveness of educator programs (EPPs) in preparing them to succeed in the classroom. The information gathered will assist in improving the educational experience for teacher candidates through EPPs. The survey applies only to new teachers that completed an EPP in Texas.

TEA and SBEC understand the unique challenges that the current school year has introduced in preparing effective first-year teachers.  The survey results will be especially helpful given the unique challenges of this year for understanding and supporting the continuous improvement of teacher preparation.  Therefore, we are highly encouraging teachers to complete the survey.  However, in recognition of the challenges and additional burdens facing first-year teachers this year, there will be no negative consequences for not completing the survey, and investigations of teachers who do not complete the survey will not be a priority for the agency in keeping with 19 TAC §249.14(k).

The survey is authorized by Senate Bill 174, passed by the 81st Texas Legislature in 2009, included in 19 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) Chapter 229, Accountability System for Educator Preparation (ASEP).

The results from this survey are used for monitoring and understanding the effectiveness of EPPs.

Teachers will receive an email on April 1, 2021 with a link to the survey to be completed. The email will be sent to the email address associated with their Educator Certification Online System (ECOS) Educator account. It is important that all teacher surveys are submitted by June 15, 2021. Teachers will receive 10 continuing professional education (CPE) hours for reviewing Survey Overview and Information (PDF) and for completion of the survey.
