Principal Student Growth Scores
Districts have flexibility with the student growth measures they include in principal evaluations. Student growth measures reflect a common, 5-level scale with the following possible ratings:
- Well Below Expectations
- Below Expectations
- At Expectations
- Above Expectations
- Well Above Expectations
There are a number of possible mechanisms to assess principal growth. These mechanisms vary for tested and non-tested grades and subjects.
Tested Grades and Subjects
For principals with students in tested grades and subjects (generally math and English Language Arts in grades 4-9), the district will use the TEA-supplied, campus-level "value-added" student growth measure.
Non-tested Grades and Subjects
For principals of students in non-tested grades and subjects, districts may choose one or more of the following measures of student growth.
Elementary School
Any of the following measures of student growth may be used for principal assessment at the elementary school level:
- Indices of State Accountability System
- Attendance
- Student Surveys
- Literacy Measures (TPRI/DRA/Dibels)
- District-wide Assessments
Middle School
Any of the following measures of student growth may be used for principal assessment at the middle school level:
- Indices of State Accountability System
- Attendance
- Student Surveys
- Percent of Students in Algebra 1 or other advanced curriculum
- District-wide Assessments
High School
Any of the following measures of student growth may be used for principal assessment at the high school level:
- Indices of State Accountability System
- Attendance
- Student Surveys
- Advanced Placement Participation and Scores
- ACT and SAT Participation and Scores
- IB Participation and Scores
- Graduation Rates/Drop out Rates
- Percent College and Career Ready
