TEA to host August 9 information session for San Antonio School for Inquiry and Creativity parents

AUSTIN – The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will host an information session for the parents of students at the San Antonio School for Inquiry and Creativity (SASIC). TEA has suspended operations of the charter.

The information session will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 6 p.m. at the charter campus at 4618 San Pedro Avenue in San Antonio.

During the session, TEA staff will provide parents information regarding the charter school’s closure, alternative educational options in the immediate area for next school year, as well as parental rights and procedures for securing their student’s school records. The school district or charter their son or daughter will attend next school year will need official student records.

Prior to the meeting with parents, SASIC teachers and staff will have an opportunity to meet with TEA representatives to ask questions related to the school’s closure. The staff information session will take at 4 p.m. at the charter campus at 4618 San Pedro Avenue in San Antonio.

On July 21. 2017, Commissioner of Education Mike Morath notified SASIC leadership of his decision to immediately suspend operations at the charter school. The Commissioner’s order came following a Special Accreditation Investigation by the agency. Following a hearing on July 26, 2017, Commissioner upheld his decision to suspend operations at the school and has initiated an action to revoke the charter held by SASIC.
