State Board for Educator Certification Work Session Agenda

The Board will meet in open session and after determining the presence of a quorum, deliberate and possibly take formal action, including emergency action, on any of the following agenda items:
1. Call to Order
2. Welcome and Overview
This item is a discussion of the purpose of the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) work session as well as the Board’s Core Principles.
3. Discussion of Educator Certification and Preparation Overview Data
This item provides the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) an opportunity to review and discuss overview data related to educator certification and preparation.
4. Discussion of a Recommended Pathway for Educator Preparation and Certification
This item provides the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) an opportunity to discuss potential revisions to the current teacher preparation and certification pathway with a focus on access, content pedagogy, and clinical practice. This item includes opportunities to discuss pre-admission content tests and educator performance assessments.
5. Discussion of the New Educator Testing Contracts
This item provides the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) an opportunity to receive an update and discuss the educator certification examination contracts with NCS Pearson, Inc. and Educational Testing Service (ETS) that will begin September 1, 2018.
6. Discussion of the Accountability System for Educator Preparation (ASEP)
This item provides the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) an opportunity to receive information about the Accountability System for Educator Preparation (ASEP).
7. Discussion of Current Agency Initiatives Related to Educator Support
This item provides the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) an opportunity to receive an update and discuss Texas Education Agency (TEA) initiatives related to recruiting, supporting, and retaining teachers and principals.
8. Discussion of Educator Misconduct Investigations and Sanctions
This item provides the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) an opportunity to receive an update and discuss issues related to educator misconduct investigations and sanctions.
9. Discussion of SBEC Legislative Priorities
This item provides the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) an opportunity to have a discussion regarding potential SBEC legislative priorities.
