The Board will meet in open session and after determining the presence of a quorum, deliberate and possibly take formal action, including emergency action, on any of the following agenda items:

1. Call to Order

2. Welcome and Overview

This item is a discussion of the purpose of the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) work session.

3. Legislative Update

This item provides an update and report to the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) regarding all SBEC-related legislation as a result of the 86th Texas Legislative Session. 

4. Discussion of Teaching Profession

This item was requested by a State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) member and provides the Board an opportunity to receive an update on current agency initiatives and discuss opportunities within the Board’s authority to raise the esteem and public perception of the teaching profession.

5. Investigations, Disciplinary Cases, and Enforcement

This item provides the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) an opportunity to receive an update and discuss issues related to educator misconduct investigations and sanctions.

6. Educator Preparation Program Overview

This item provides the SBEC an opportunity to discuss the current process and oversight of educator preparation programs regarding, approval, renewal, sanctions, and complaints.

7. Special Education Certification Redesign Overview

This item provides the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) with an opportunity to discuss the recommendations from the three-part special education policy forums held between November 2018 and January 2019.

8. Discussion and Update on the edTPA pilot

This item provides the SBEC with an opportunity to receive an update from staff regarding the edTPA pilot the Board approved in April 2019.

9. Review of July 26, 2019 SBEC Agenda Items

This item provides the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) with an opportunity to review the July 26, 2019 agenda items.
