Military Child Education Coalition - Professional Development Opportunities
- MCEC® offers learning opportunities for professionals including topics that enhance the understanding of the challenges of transition for military and veteran-connected students and provide recommendations for support.
- School Liaisons can provide training and support to LEAs impacted by military installations. TEA encourages coordination with School Liaisons to help provide robust services for military-connected students.
PEIMS Identification
Military-Connected Student Identifier Resource
- This one-pager provides guidance for schools on collecting military-connected student information for PEIMS.
- Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that Texas identify students with a parent who is an active-duty member of the Armed Forces, National Guard, or Reserves. This Military Student Identifier will allow educators and leaders to understand how military-connected children are performing in school.
- The Texas Student Data System (TSDS) Web-Enabled Data Standards (TWEDS) provides a breakdown of the military-connected student indicator codes and their descriptions.

Department of Defense (DoD) - Month of the Military Child
- April is designated as the Month of the Military Child. Purple is designated to be worn typically on April 15th to show support children of all branches of the military.
Military K-12 Partners: A DoDEA Educational Partnership Program
- DoDEA has awarded 321 grants since 2009 totaling over $400 million to support academic achievement and educational opportunities outcomes for military children. In the fiscal year of 2017, Texas received $2.35 million dollars. Data gathered from these grant programs show that there are significant improvements in student achievement, increased professional development for teachers, enhanced social and emotional support for students.
