The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is requesting a Tydings waiver under Section 421(b) of the General Education Provisions Act to extend the period of availability of Federal Fiscal Year 2022 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant funds for which the TEA participates as the eligible agency. Under this approved waiver, the period of availability for these funds would be extended through September 30, 2025, and all funds must be obligated during this period.
TEA is requesting this waiver to continue the implementation of the Stronger Out of School Time (Stronger OST) grant program. This program is using the Bipartisan Safer Community Act funding included with the 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) Grant Award Notice to supplement and expand 21st CCLC centers serving grades 6-12 to increase school-day attendance and engagement through access to high-quality out-of-school time activities.
As required under ESSA section 8401(b)(3)(A), TEA is providing notice of this request to the public with an opportunity for public comment.
Please submit any comments on the proposed waiver electronically to 21stCentury@tea.texas.gov by April 13, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., to be included in the state’s waiver application to USDE.
