Updates on Selection Process for Commissioner-Approved K-2 Reading Instruments

TEA initiated a process in October 2024 to select new commissioner-approved reading instruments for use in Kindergarten-grade 2 starting in the 2025-26 school year. To ensure districts have maximum time to support implementation, no changes will be made effective the 2025-26 school year.  The currently approved Kindergarten-grade 2 reading instruments have been extended through August 31, 2026.  Updates to the approved list for the 2026-27 school year will be published later this year.

Extension of Current Commissioner-Approved Kindergarten-grade 2 Reading Instruments

For kindergarten, Circle Kindergarten Progress Monitoring (formerly known as TX-KEA) by CLI and mCLASS Texas by Amplify will remain available as commissioner-approved reading instruments at no cost to districts.

For grades 1 and 2, TPRI/Tejas LEE by CLI and mCLASS Texas Edition by Amplify will remain available as commissioner-approved reading instruments. School systems will continue to have the opportunity to select an alternate reading instrument for use in grades 1 and 2 through their district-level committee.

Please Note: The authorization period for mCLASS Texas Edition as a free, commissioner-approved reading instrument for kindergarten and grades 1-2 has been extended through August 2026.  These instruments will continue to be provided at no cost to school systems.
