The purpose of this communication is to inform superintendents and district administrators that they can now submit their application to participate in the Texas Through-year Assessment Pilot (TTAP) for the 2024–2025 school year.

TTAP Year 3 Overview

As required by House Bill 3906, 86th Texas Legislature, 2019, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) continues to further develop and expand the pilot of an innovative, through-year assessment model as a possible replacement for the summative State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®). A through-year assessment model refers to a progress monitoring system that provides students with multiple opportunities throughout the school year to demonstrate their mastery of the curriculum standards that contribute to their summative performance level reported at the end of the year. The pilot assessment model was developed in collaboration with Texas educators, administrators, students, and families.

During the 2024–2025 school year, TTAP will be available to administer for the following grades and subjects: grade 3 math (new), grade 6 math, grade 7 math, grade 8 math (new), grade 8 social studies, and Algebra I (new). TTAP will feature three, one-week testing opportunities tentatively scheduled for the following dates:

  • Opportunity 1 (Fall)—November 11–15, 2024
  • Opportunity 2 (Winter)—January 27–31, 2025
  • Opportunity 3 (Spring)—March 24–28, 2025

To support district and campus administrators and teachers participating in TTAP, TEA will host required trainings throughout the 2024–2025 school year. A beginning-of-year training will be held in August, and subsequent trainings will be held shortly before or after each testing opportunity to ensure operational fidelity and to train educators on how to analyze and act on TTAP’s progress monitoring data.

Apply to Participate in TTAP

All Texas public school districts and open-enrollment charter schools are eligible to participate in TTAP. TEA will host two webinars to provide information to interested district personnel. To participate in one of these webinars, register using the links below.

To apply to participate in TTAP for the 2024–2025 school year, the district testing coordinator should complete the district-level application by 11:59 p.m. (CT) March 29, 2024. Priority will be given to districts that participated in TTAP during the 2023–2024 school year and to districts that are able to administer a majority of TTAP test titles offered during the 2024–2025 school year.
