Evaluation of Educator Preparation Programs by Teachers

New teachers under a standard certificate must complete an evaluation at the end of the first year of teaching regarding the effectiveness of educator programs (EPPs) in preparing them to succeed in the classroom. The information gathered will assist in improving the educational experience for teacher candidates through EPPs. This evaluation applies only to new teachers that completed an EPP in Texas.

Current State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) rules in 19 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §229.3(f)(5), require each new teacher in a Texas public school to complete an evaluation about the effectiveness of their preparation.

This evaluation is authorized by Senate Bill 174, passed by the 81st Texas Legislature in 2009, included in 19 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) Chapter 229, Accountability System for Educator Preparation (ASEP).

The result from this evaluation is used for monitoring and understanding the effectiveness of EPPs.

Teachers will receive an email on April 3, 2023 with a link to the evaluation to be completed. The email will be sent to the email address associated with their Educator Certification Online System (ECOS) Educator account. It is important that the evaluation be submitted by June 15, 2023. Teachers will receive 10 continuing professional education (CPE) hours for reviewing Overview and Information (PDF) and for completion of the evaluation.
