Evaluation of Educator Preparation Programs by Teachers
First-year teachers working as a teacher of record in Texas public school must complete an evaluation regarding the effectiveness of educator programs (EPPs) in preparing them to succeed in the classroom. The information gathered will assist in improving the educational experience for teacher candidates through EPPs. First-year teachers will be sent a link to complete this mandatory preparation program evaluation who meet the following criteria:
- Working for their first year as a teacher of record in Texas public schools
- Has taught for at least five months of the school year
- Holds a standard, intern, or probationary certificate
- Has completed or are enrolled in a Texas EPP
Current State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC) rules in 19 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §229.3(f)(4), require each new teacher in a Texas public school to complete an evaluation about the effectiveness of their preparation.
This evaluation is authorized by Senate Bill 174, passed by the 81st Texas Legislature in 2009, included in 19 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) Chapter 229, Accountability System for Educator Preparation (ASEP). According to TAC §229.3(b), any individual holding a Texas-issued educator certificate who fails to provide information required may be subject to sanction of their certificate, including the placement of restrictions, inscribed or non-inscribed reprimand, suspension, or revocation.
The result from this evaluation is used for monitoring and understanding the effectiveness of EPPs.
Teachers will receive an email on April 1, 2024, with a link to the evaluation to be completed. The email will be sent to the email address associated with their Educator Certification Online System (ECOS) Educator account. It is important that the evaluation be submitted by June 15, 2024. Teachers will receive 10 continuing professional education (CPE) hours for reviewing Overview and Information (PDF) and for completion of the evaluation.
