Texas public schools employ more than 320,000 teachers, plus more than
80,000 additional professional staff members, such as principals, central
office administrators and other professional support members.
The Texas Education Agency provides a wide array of services that help
educators do their jobs. Those functions include accrediting educator
certification programs, issuing teaching certificates, distributing curriculum
standards and textbooks and providing standardized student tests. This section
provides educators the information they need to function effectively and
efficiently as they work with the state’s 5.1 million students.
Our Educator Certification division provides information and assistance
for educators, school districts, and the public, especially as it pertains to
becoming a teacher or administrator in Texas or renewing certification.
The Texas Evaluation and Support System (TESS) uses multiple measures
in the development of educator quality to support student learning. This page provides
information on the state recommended teacher and principal evaluation systems.
The Division of Educator Initiatives works to recruit,
retain and reward excellent Texas educators. This section provides information
about the various programs available to educators across the state.
