System of Great Schools

The System of Great Schools (SGS) is a district transformation strategy that helps leaders redesign systems so more students attend A/B campuses every year. SGS districts align data, community voice, instructional systems, and resources to ensure families have access to high-quality best-fit schools.

SGS is an extension of the Effective District Framework (EDF) by helping districts evaluate, prioritize, and implement core EDF strategies, such as planning and performance management, academic experience, and instructional leadership and capacity building, while also supporting key system extensions, including partnerships and innovative school actions.

Why SGS Matters

All students should graduate prepared for college, career, or the military—and families deserve access to a high‑quality, best‑fit school and SGS districts do just that.

  • 25 SGS Network districts serve more than 806,500 students.
  • Since 2019, SGS districts increased their number of A/B campuses by 62% (compared to 26% statewide)
  • In SY24–25, SGS districts added 62,000 more students in A/B campuses while also reducing D/F campuses.

SGS works because it transforms the entire district system—not just individual campuses.
