Resources for the Streamlined Social Studies TEKS

In November 2018, the State Board of Education (SBOE) adopted streamlined social studies TEKS for K-8 and five high school social studies courses. This webpage provides resources to assist educators and parents in the transition to the streamlined social studies TEKS for middle school and high school, which will be implemented in the 2019-2020 school year, and kindergarten-grade 5, which will be implemented in the 2020-2021 school year.

Curriculum Standards

To assist educators as they prepare planning documents for the 2019-2020 school year and beyond, TEA has prepared draft documents that contain clean versions (without underlines and strikeouts) of Chapter 113, Subchapters A-C. The following are draft documents that the SBOE approved for second reading and final adoption at its November 2018 SBOE meeting. Please note that these documents have not yet been filed and are subject to technical edits by the editors for the Texas Register.

Secondary (Grades 6-8 and High School)

The streamlined social studies TEKS for middle school and high school will be effective on August 1, 2019, and implemented in classrooms beginning with the 2019-2020 school year.

The streamlined social studies TEKS for kindergarten-grade 5 will be effective on August 1, 2020, and implemented in classrooms beginning with the 2020-2021 school year.

2010 TEKS to 2018 TEKS Crosswalk Documents

The course crosswalks show the correlation between the 2010 TEKS currently in use and the 2018 streamlined TEKS that will be implemented beginning in the 2019-2020 school year. There are four columns in the crosswalk for each course. The first column on the left has the 2010 TEKS. The second column from the left shows the streamlining of the TEKS. The third column has the streamlined 2018 TEKS. Finally, the fourth column provides additional information about the 2018 TEKS.
