All proposed new rules, proposed amendments to existing rules, and proposed repeals approved for first reading by the State Board of Education (SBOE) and filed with the Texas Register are available here. Summary: The proposal would modify the amount of credit that could be earned for the course and eliminate language requiring a course sequence, which is inconsistent with graduation requirements.

Proposed New 19 TAC Chapter 130, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Science, Subchapter F, Finance, §130.180, Financial Mathematics (One Credit), Adopted 2015

Summary: The proposal would add new Texas essential knowledge and skills (TEKS) for a high school career and technical education course for Financial Mathematics for implementation in the 2015-2016 school year.

Please note that the original section number for the new financial mathematics TEKS (§130.183) was changed to §130.180 subsequent to the April 2015 State Board of Education meeting. This was necessary to ensure the financial mathematics TEKS take effect August 24, 2015, the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year. The section number originally proposed (§130.183) is currently assigned and would not be available for use as a section number until August 2017.

Summary: The proposal would add new Texas essential knowledge and skills for high school career and technical education courses for food chemistry, welding, and practicum in marketing for implementation in the 2017-2018 school year. The SBOE postponed these courses at the April 2015 meeting for second reading and final adoption at the July 2015 meeting.
