In 2008, TEA revised the Texas Prekindergarten guidelines with the expertise of writing teams and state and national experts, along with input gathered from public forums across the state and written comments submitted during the public comment period. This feedback was incorporated into the guidelines which were then approved by the commissioner of education on May 21, 2008, and presented to the State Board of Education for review on May 22, 2008. The guidelines will remain voluntary and guided publishers in revising prekindergarten instructional materials for the 2011 Proclamation:
Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines Web-based Training
This web-based professional development tool (outside source) orients and introduces educators to the Prekindergarten Guidelines. The training includes video examples of child behaviors in five domains (social and emotional development, language and communication, emergent literacy: reading and writing, and math), and provides instructional strategies teachers can use to support students. Also included are examples of integrated instruction with video examples of classroom interactions where several outcomes from the guidelines are combined.

Early Childhood Outcomes & Prekindergarten Guidelines Alignment
The agency commissioned a companion document to the Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines known as the Early Childhood Outcomes and Prekindergarten Guidelines Alignment (PDF, 3.37MB). This document is designed to align each Prekindergarten Guideline to one or more of the three Early Childhood Outcomes, and provide educators and families with discussion prompts to explain how each outcome relates to the Guideline. This document also provides modifications and adaptations for children with special needs.
