The TAKS assessments are designed to measure the extent to which a student has learned and is able to apply the defined knowledge and skills at each tested grade level.
The TAKS test administration manuals explain the responsibilities of test administrators and testing coordinators.
Use the forms below for all TAKS administrations. These forms must be used only for students taking the TAKS tests.
TAKS blueprints establish the length of each test and the number of test items measuring each objective. These blueprints provide consistency from one test administration to the next. TEA developed the blueprints to ensure that each subject-area and grade-level test includes a variety of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) student expectations eligible for assessment. In addition, each subject-area blueprint reflects an appropriate distribution of the TEKS across objectives for that grade level.
TAKS Information Booklets
TEA developed TAKS information booklets to provide a better understanding of TAKS and its connection to the statewide curriculum, the TEKS. These booklets are not intended to replace the teaching of the TEKS curriculum, provide the basis for the isolated teaching of skills in the form of narrow test preparation, or serve as the single information source about every aspect of the TAKS program. However, we believe that the booklets provide helpful explanations as well as show enough sample items, reading and writing selections, and prompts to give educators a good sense of the assessment.
Note that unlike the previous information booklets, each grade within a subject area is now presented as a separate booklet. However, it is still important that teachers review the information booklets for the grades both above and below the grade they teach. For example, eighth grade reading teachers who review the seventh grade booklet as well as the ninth grade booklet are able to develop a broader perspective of the TAKS reading assessment than if they study only the eighth grade booklet.
The information booklets for each subject area contain some information
unique to that subject. However, all booklets include the following information,
which we consider critical for every subject-area TAKS test:
- an overview of the subject within the context of TAKS
- a blueprint of the test - the number of items under each objective and the
number of items on the test as a whole
- information that clarifies how to read the TEKS
- the reasons each objective and its TEKS student expectations are critical to
student learning and success
- additional information about each objective that helps educators understand how TEA assesses the objective on TAKS
- sample items that show some of the ways TEA assesses objectives

TAKS Study Guides
The Texas Education Agency developed TAKS Study Guides to help
students strengthen the TEKS that
are taught in class and tested on TAKS. The guides are designed for
students to use on their own or for students and families to work
through together. Concepts are presented in a variety of ways that will
help students review the information and skills they need to be
successful on the TAKS.

and the download time depends on your internet connection speed. These
low-resolution files are optimized for Internet use and they may vary in
quality from the original high quality booklets.
