STAAR Interim Assessments

See the State-Developed STAAR Interim Assessments web page for more information.

HB 3906 requires the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to continue the production and availability of interim assessments. The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) interim assessments are free, optional online tools for school districts and open-enrollment charter schools that provide help educators monitor progress and predict student performance on the STAAR test. STAAR interim assessments include test questions developed with Texas teachers and STAAR summative test questions from previous years. Interim questions have been field tested and are fully aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). In the 2018-2019 school year, over 1.6 million interim assessments were completed and almost 50% of districts participated.

New STAAR interim assessments were made available beginning 2019–2020 for science and social studies (in English and Spanish where applicable). For the Spanish STAAR interim assessments, content and language supports in Spanish are available. STAAR interim assessments also now include refreshable braille for grades 3–8 reading, grade 8 social studies, English I, English II, and U.S. History.

Educators and test administrators can learn more on the State-Developed STAAR Interim Assessments web page or log into the Texas Assessment Management System to register students for STAAR interim assessments.
