To better support a teacher's understanding of interim assessment and formative assessment and how these types of assessments relate to the free resources on which they are offered, the Texas Education Agency (TEA), has released teacher-facing training modules for the Texas Formative Assessment Resource (TFAR) and STAAR Interim Assessments. Read the descriptions below to learn more about each program and use the links provided to access each set of training modules.

Texas Formative Assessment Resource (TFAR)

The Texas Formative Assessment Resource (TFAR) is an optional, free tool to supplement existing classroom practices and lessons and support teachers in building and administering classroom quizzes to inform and adjust instruction. Quizzes built through TFAR should be part of a broader set of classroom formative practices and should be aligned and connected with existing instructional plans, lessons, and curriculum.

STAAR Interim Assessments

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has created optional online interim assessments that align to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Test questions for the STAAR Interim Assessments are developed with Texas teachers and include some former STAAR items. These assessments will be available at no cost to districts and charter schools, and they are not tied to accountability.
