The Curriculum Division mathematics team provides direction and leadership to the mathematics programs, Kindergarten through grade 12.
The mathematics staff does the following:
- Assists districts statewide with implementation of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for mathematics
- Oversees the development and management of state-funded professional development programs
- Collaborates with the Division of Student Assessment in the development of state mathematics assessments
- Assists the Division of Instructional Materials and Educational Technology (IMET) in overseeing the textbook adoption process for K-12 mathematics instructional materials
- Reviews state certifications related to mathematics with the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)
The mathematics team provides ongoing communication with the field related to mathematics curriculum and graduation requirements in Chapter 74.

provides resources to assist parents and teachers in the transition to
the revised mathematics TEKS for K-8, which were implemented in
Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching
The National Science Foundation, under the direction of the White House, approves the Texas candidates as finalists for the national Presidential Awards for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching (PAEMST) award. If chosen as a national winner, the state finalists will receive $10,000 and an all-expense-paid trip for two to Washington D.C. for ceremonies that include recognition from the President of the United States. The nomination and application windows are open for teachers who teach Grades 7-12, including AP Computer Science Teachers. High school teachers who teach a Career and Technical Education (CTE) or a Technology Applications course that can satisfy a mathematics or science graduation credit may apply under the appropriate category.
In Texas, eligible teachers who submit a completed application by May 1, 2017, will receive 25 CPE hours. For questions, contact your Texas State PAEMST Coordinators at email@example.com.

Congratulations Deborah Cunningham, Garland ISD math teacher; Ashley Dodson, Allen ISD math teacher; Robert Rivera, Brownsville ISD math teacher; Misty Ruth, Pasadena ISD math teacher; and Deborah Swyers, Round Rock ISD math teacher on being selected as the 2016 PAEMST Texas state finalist for mathematics.
The TEA is looking for experts in the field of math education to review and evaluate applications for PAEMST. This year’s competition is for teachers of grades 7-12. The application to serve on the 2017 PAEMST review committee is now available. The completed form is due on or before 5:00 p.m. CST on Friday, March 31, 2017.
