Bahorich reappointed SBOE chair

Gov. Greg Abbott on Jan. 24 reappointed Donna Bahorich as chair of the State Board of Education for a second two-year term of office, effective Feb. 1, 2017 to Feb. 1, 2019.

The appointment is subject to Senate confirmation. The Senate Nominations Committee will take up her appointment, as well as the appointment of Commissioner of Education Mike Morath, on Feb. 16.

I’m honored and humbled that Gov. Abbott has reappointed me to a second two-year term as chair of the State Board of Education. Serving in this capacity is one of the greatest honors of my life. It is also a duty that I take seriously. I’ve done my best to work alongside my colleagues to make the work of the board more accessible to all Texans,” Bahorich said.

Bahorich has served as chair of the 15 member board since June 18, 2015.

Gov. Abbott said, “Donna's exemplary leadership as chair of the State Board of Education over the last two years has allowed Texas to address the educational challenges of our state with collaborative and innovative solutions. Enhancing our education system is imperative to securing a bright future for all Texans and I look forward to continuing to work with Donna to achieve that goal.”
