Recognize hard-working volunteers as Heroes for Children

AUSTIN — The State Board of Education (SBOE) is now accepting nominations for the 2018 Heroes for Children Award. This annual award recognizes public school volunteers who have been strong advocates for Texas schoolchildren.

Past recipients have provided volunteer service – often decades of services - for activities such as mentoring children, assisting teachers, organizing fundraisers, spearheading bond campaigns, and doing much more to help create happy, thriving school cultures.

The SBOE has presented 435 individuals with this award since the program’s creation in 1994.

The SBOE this year will select 15 Heroes for Children—one person from each of the 15 state board districts. Heroes will be honored during the SBOE’s meeting on Friday, Sept. 14, 2018.

Each winner receives a plaque and a copy of a resolution approved by the board recognizing his or her service. Each recipient’s name is also engraved on a perpetual plaque that hangs outside the board room at the Texas Education Agency headquarters.

Program guidelines and the nomination form are available online at http://tea.texas.gov/About_TEA/News_and_Multimedia/Awards/Heroes_for_Children_Award/.

Completed applications must be emailed to Heroes@tea.texas.gov by 5 p.m. (CDT) on Friday, May 25.
