Help craft the New Long-Range Plan for Public Education

Texans in the Rio Grande Valley and Coastal Bend are invited to attend community meetings Feb. 7 in Edinburg, Corpus Christi and Victoria to provide input that will help shape the state’s next Long-Range Plan for Public Education.

The State Board of Education and its appointed 18-member steering committee are holding meetings around the state to gather public comments around four broad topics:

  • Educator preparation, recruitment, and retention
  • Equity and access to funding, technology, and advanced courses
  • Student engagement and empowerment to provide effective support systems for students and prepare them for life after high school
  • Family engagement and empowerment to help parents become strong advocates for their children in the education system.

The board plans to develop public education recommendations through the year 2030.

The meeting is scheduled from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday. The primary location for the meeting is the Region 1 Education Service Center, located at 1900 W. Schunior in Edinburg.

This meeting will be connected via teleconference to meetings at the Region 2 Education Service Center at 209 North Water St. in Corpus Christi and the Region 3 Education Service Center at 1905 Leary Lane in Victoria. The meetings are open to the public.

Advance registration is encouraged but not required.
