Changes to STAAR Grades 5 and 8 Math Dates

Word Version

December 9, 2014

SUBJECTS:    1)   STAAR Grades 5 and 8 Mathematics Testing Dates for Spring 2015

                        2)   Proposed Changes to the STAAR Grades 5 and 8 Science and Grade 8 Social Studies Testing Dates for Spring 2016

The purpose of this communication is to inform you about a change in the date of testing for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) grades 5 and 8 mathematics assessments in the 2014–2015 school year.

As previously announced in agency correspondence dated May 1, 2014, the STAAR grades 3–8 mathematics assessments will be changing in spring 2015 due to changes in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) adopted by the State Board of Education in April 2012. Based on educator advice, I am changing the testing date for STAAR grades 5 and 8 mathematics from March 30, 2015 to April 20, 2015.

In future correspondence, the agency will provide district testing coordinators with administrative information in regard to this change for the STAAR grades 3–8 assessments (e.g., changes to test booklets, distribution and return of test materials, reporting, etc.).

In addition to changing the testing date for STAAR grade 5 and 8 mathematics for spring 2015, the Texas Education Agency will post a draft testing calendar for the 2015–2016 school year that reflects a proposed change to the testing dates for STAAR grades 5 and 8 science and grade 8 social studies from late-April to mid-May beginning in 2016. The draft testing calendar will be posted later in December for public comment.

If you have questions about this correspondence, please call the Student Assessment Division at 512-463-9536.
