The Texas Education Agency believes the public has a right to know how its public schools are doing. Thanks to a decision in the 1980s to create the Public Education Information Management System, known as PEIMS, Texas has one of the largest education databases in the world. It provides a treasure trove of information for researchers, parents and the public to examine and learn about the workings of about 1,200 school districts and charters, as well as TEA itself. That information and other data is used to create a number of reports that provide information about a variety of topics, such as student performance, spending and implementation of legislation.
A sampling of the reports available include:
Accountability Research Reports
The Accountability Research Unit in the Division of Research and Analysis publish annual accountability research reports on Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations, college entrance examinations (SAT and ACT), enrollment trends, grade-level retention, and completion, graduation, and dropout rates.
Discipline Data Products
TEA's Discipline Data Products, calculated from the data collected through the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS), include Discipline Reports, Discipline Action Group Summary Reports, TAKS Assessment Reports for Students in Discipline Settings, and STAAR Assessment Reports for Students in Discipline Settings.
Each legislative session, the Texas Education Agency is required to provide education-related reports to the Texas Legislature. This page currently contains reports to the 84th Texas Legislative session. Reports to older legislatures are also available.
Snapshot: School District Profiles is an annual publication that provides an overview of state- and district-level public education in Texas.
The Texas Education Agency regularly conducts Educator-related Studies on demographics, attrition and retention, teacher shortages, mathematics and science teachers, and educator evaluations.
Texas Public Education Information Resource
Texas Public Education Information Resource (TPEIR) is a joint, cross-agency project managed by the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The site contains student and teacher data collected from a variety of resources, including the Texas Student Data System, PEIMS, the TEA Student Assessment Division, the TEA State Funding Division, and Coordinating Board Management (CBM) Reports.
