Nominate businesses that support employee volunteerism in public schools

AUSTIN – Applications are now being accepted by the State Board of Education (SBOE) for the 2013 Employers for Education Excellence (EEE) Award. Texas employers who encourage and support employee participation in school activities are eligible to be nominated for the 2013 award.

Any Texasemployer is eligible, including private businesses, nonprofit organizations, governmental and educational entities that meet the criteria. Employers will be eligible to receive an award at one of three levels: Bronze, Silver, or Gold.  Eligibility is based on the business meeting the following criteria for one of the three levels:

  • Bronze – An employer that implements a policy to encourage and support employees who attend parent-teacher conferences.
  • Silver – An employer that meets the requirements of bronze, and implements a policy to encourage and support employees  who volunteer in school activities.
  • Gold – An employer that meets the requirements of silver, and implements a policy to encourage and support employees who participate in student mentoring programs in schools.

The EEE program requires a business to submit an application to the Texas Education Agency.  The application  form is available online. The application can be downloaded and mailed to the address on the application form, or filled out online and sent in via e-mail.

Once the application is received, the Commissioner of Education’s designee will review the applications and make recommendations to the SBOE regarding businesses that should receive an award and the level of recognition. The SBOE may approve or modify those recommendations.

The SBOE will honor the recipient(s) with an award that includes the level of recognition and other appropriate information. The EEE awards will be valid for three years.  At the end of three years, a business may reapply for the same level of recognition or for a higher level if they meet the criteria.

The complete EEE application must be e-mailed or postmarked by May 31 to: Texas Education Agency, Communications Division, Employers for Education Excellence Award, 1701 Congress Avenue, Room 2-180, Austin, Texas 78701.
