Texas Pre-Kindergarten Limited English Proficiency (Pre-K LEP)
Pre-K LEP was created to address the educational needs of English language learning preschool students and was evaluated based on data collected during the 2008-09 school year. As specified in statute, the Pre-K LEP program must provide opportunities for the acquisition of English while supporting a child’s first language through the provision of social services, appropriate training and modeling, research-based curricula and supplies to enhance the development of both languages. Additional information about this program can be found at the Children's Learning Institute Pre-K LEP page.
TEA program evaluation staff are conducting an evaluation of Pre-K LEP programs in operation during the 2008-09 school year; the next report will be available in Spring 2010.
School Readiness Integration (SRI) Model
SRI was an early childhood education program that coordinated prekindergarten resources between public school districts, Head Start programs, and child care providers (including centers positioned on military installations). The purposes of the SRI program were to prepare all children to enter kindergarten on or above grade level and to do so in community-based and individualized ways that best serve each community’s needs in the most effective and efficient manner.
