Title III Part A Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives

Under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), Title III, Part A, Section 3122, the TEA must hold each Title III-funded local education agency (LEA) accountable for meeting Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives (AMAOs) for English language learners (ELLs), also referenced in current federal statute as children who are limited English proficient (LEP).  AMAOs must reflect annual increases in the percentage of ELLs making progress in learning English, attaining English proficiency, and meeting the state’s academic content and achievement standards.  The 2012 AMAOs standards are as follows:

The 2012 standards for AMAO 1 Progress and AMAO 2 Attainment will be based on the results of the spring 2012 administration of the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS).  AMAO 3 LEP AYP outcomes are determined through the TEA Division of Performance Reporting.  For information on 2012 AYP, including the 2012 AYP timeline, please visit the AYP website at www.tea.state.tx.us/ayp/.
