Student Services Certificates

To become a school counselor, school librarian, educational diagnostician, reading specialist, or master teacher you must complete an approved Educator Preparation Program (EPP).

School Counselor, School Librarian, Educational Diagnostician and Reading Specialist Certificate Requirements

The requirements found here are for all certificates under this heading. You must:

An educational diagnostician is required to have a valid classroom teaching certificate.

Master Teacher

To become a master teacher in reading, mathematics, science, or technology you must complete an approved EPP.

Master Reading Teacher 

There are two options for obtaining a Master Reading Teacher certificate.

Option 1:

You must hold a Texas Reading Specialist certificate and complete a course of instruction through an approved EPP.

Option 2:

If you do not hold a Reading Specialist certificate, you must:

  • Hold a Texas teaching certificate.
  • Have three years of teaching experience in a public or accredited private school.
  • Complete an approved EPP.
  • Complete the required test.

Master Mathematics or Master Science Teacher 

To obtain a Master Mathematics or Master Science certificate, you must:

  • Hold a Texas teaching certificate.
  • Have three years of teaching experience in a public or accredited private school.
  • Complete an approved EPP.
  • Complete the required test.

Master Technology Teacher 

There are two options for obtaining a Master Technology Teacher certificate.

Option 1:

To obtain a Master Technology Teacher certificate, you must:

  • Hold a Texas Technology Applications or Technology Education teaching certificate.
  • Have three years of teaching experience in a public or accredited private school.
  • Complete an approved EPP.
  • Complete the required test.

Option 2:

If you do not hold a Technology Applications or Technology Education teaching certificate, you must:

  • Hold a Texas teaching certificate.
  • Have three years of teaching experience in a public or accredited private school.
  • Complete an approved EPP.
  • Complete a test developed in cooperation with the Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund Board and administered at the conclusion of the course of instruction.
