Status of NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher Requirements

SUBJECT:  Status of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Highly Qualified Teacher Requirements

Section 1119 of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) requires that all core academic subject area teachers should have met the highly qualified (HQ) teacher requirements by the end of the 2006-2007 school year. Based on the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA or agency) review of the 2014-2015 local education agency (LEA) highly qualified teacher data, the state is close to meeting this goal, but it has not been met statewide.  

The dates listed below provide the deadlines for the highly qualified teacher requirements and the agency’s plans for continued implementation and improvement toward this NCLB requirement.

Campus Reporting of Highly Qualified Teacher Compliance Report as of September 16, 2015
(2015-2016 Highly Qualified Teacher Data) - Due Date November 18, 2015

LEA Public Reporting of Progress in Meeting Highly Qualified Teacher Requirements
(2015-2016 Highly Qualified Teacher Data) - Due Date December 16, 2015

Principal’s Attestation of Highly Qualified Teacher Requirements
