THE ADMINISTRATOR ADDRESSED:
Subject: Required Physical Fitness Assessment
Texas Education Code, §38.101 and
§38.103, require that the fitness levels of all students in grades 3-12
enrolled in a physical education course or any substitute course or activity be
assessed at least once annually and that school districts submit the results to
the Texas Education Agency (TEA) each school year. The TEA identified
Fitnessgram® as the assessment tool to be used by all school
districts starting in the 2007-2008 school year.
In 2013, the TEA entered into an agreement with Human Kinetics to provide
a two-year statewide license to Fitnessgram 10 at no cost to schools. Districts
and charter schools are required to register with Human Kinetics for access to
the district site license, which provides software access, an updated
Fitnessgram test manual, and key code access to online Fitnessgram media.
Please visit tea.texas.gov/WorkArea/linkit.aspx?LinkIdentifier=ID&ItemID=25769817530 for more information regarding Fitnessgram
10 and instructions for how to register for the site license.
Districts that elect not to take advantage of the Fitnessgram 10 site
license will still be required to upload their fitness data to TEA. Districts
may upload their data via the TEA’s Physical Fitness Assessment Initiative
(PFAI) application. A TEASE account, user name, and password with PFAI access
is required to upload data to the agency. Instructions for this process can be
found at http://www.tea.state.tx.us/pfai_tease.pdf.
The Fitnessgram 10 and PFAI systems opened for uploading all fitness data
on September 15, 2014. All fitness data for the 2014-2015 school year must be
submitted on or before June 12, 2015. The Fitnessgram 10 and PFAI
systems will be closed for data submission after this date.
Questions related to Fitnessgram 10
and the district site license should be directed to Human Kinetics by telephone
at 1-800-747-4457 or by email at email@example.com.
