Long-Range Challenges Facing Public Education

COMMITTEE ON SCHOOL INITIATIVES: DISCUSSION
STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION: NO ACTION

SUMMARY:
At the request of the committee, a panel of Education Service Center executive directors or their designees has been invited to discuss long-range challenges facing Texas public education over the next decade.

STATUTORY AUTHORITY: Texas Education Code (TEC), ยง7.102(c).

BOARD RESPONSE: Review and comment.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION AND SIGNIFICANT ISSUES: As one of the primary education policy making bodies in the state, the State Board of Education works to stay abreast of evolving education issues so that it can address those areas that are within its jurisdiction. As part of its effort to look at long-term issues, the committee asked selected Education Service Center executive directors or their designees to address the committee about challenges they believe will face Texas public schools over the next decade. The selected ESC directors serve those areas represented by the members of the Committee on School Initiatives.
